Ground Zine Fest
On April 14, 15 and 16 the two venues of art-space GROUND Peshanaya / Khodynka hosted GROUND zine fest. This is the first ever Russian art-book fair that celebrates the culture of new Russian and international independent publishing and small press. The festival will bring together a book-fair, lectures of publishers and artist-talks, presentations of zines and print workshops.
General partner of GROUND zine fest is Mikhail Prokhorov Fund.
Supported by Pro Helvetia Swiss Foundation and the Embassy of Estonia in Moscow.
We are living during a full scale renaissance of self-publishing and artistic printing. This truly is the territory where young artists, photographers, designers and writers can and embody their most expressive ideas. GROUND zine fest is aiming to deliver the way to get there.
The art-book fair will be open at GROUND Peshanaya from April 14 till April 16. Over 50 independent publishers, artists and book-stores will get to showcase and sell their work. The guests of the festivals will explore a vast collection of art-catalogies, photo-books, monographs, literary almanacs, magazines, livres d'artistes, zines and limited edition prints from all around the globe: USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Estonia, Poland, etc.
Significantly, the festival will bring together the founders of the independent Russian publishing houses, artists and zine-makers to sit down for an open panel discussion.
GROUND Khodynka will introduce public to the culture of audio-visual zines and musical self-publishing through unique line-up musicians, sound-artists and video-artists. Quite a few of works will be presented for the first time. And following the best tradition of self-publishing one of artists will release the limited edition of a musical zine live during the fest. But more than that, the visitors will get a chance to fill the shoes of zinisters by printing a vinyl with their favorite music to keep. The music and video performances will go side by side with a fair where independent labels will sell rare and experimental records, vinyls, and audio and video cassettes.
The set of print workshops will turn the fest into a kind of intensive course in zine-making. So that everyone will have a chance to try a hand at creating their own prints. With that as a start GROUND has a very strong intention to become a hub for artists and designers that want to produce and self-publish their works in print.
The opening of the GROUND zine fest will be highlighted by the finissage of the exhibition "Needless Alphabeth" by Petr Beliy at GROUND Peshanaya.
The chief curator of GROUND is Katya Bochavar.
Curators of GROUND zine fest are Sasha Marshani and Denis Kriukov.
Shuttle buses will be fetching visitors between two venues of GROUND art-space (Peshanaya and Khodynka) on April 15 and 16.
