Le Geste de deuil est un objet-bijou en laiton, réalisé par l’artiste Christelle Familiari, avec le concours d’un artisan joailler, pensé comme un signe de deuil contemporain.
Il est vendu avec une attache ; il peut aussi être mis en pendentif ou tout simplement glissé dans la poche, comme une présence entre les doigts.
En 2016, une fleuriste associée à une médecin en soins palliatifs et à une infirmière d’Ehpad ont souhaité faire appel à un·e artiste pour imaginer un signe de deuil contemporain, qui aurait aussi la capacité de nous réconforter à tout moment de la vie. Elles ont alors rencontré Christelle Familiari dont la démarche artistique crée des interactions entre les personnes grâce à la simplicité d’un geste et d’un matériau.
Le caractère transitif était important pour cette commande et Christelle Familiari l’a envisagé comme un geste vers les personnes. Elle propose alors un objet en laiton, évocateur d’un caillou ou d’un os. Ayant l’aspect d’un bijou mais l’humilité d’une forme « imparfaite », cet objet oscille de l’organique au minéral.
Face à l’irrationnel de la mort, cet objet peut apporter une modeste contribution à la situation aiguë du deuil, il signe une réminiscence et un passage. Parce qu’il est concret, il peut être offert comme un présent pour porter un message : « je suis avec vous ».
THE GESTURE OF MOURNINGIn 2016, a florist associated with a palliative care doctor and a geriatric nurse decided to call on an artist to imagine a sign of contemporary mourning. To carry out this reflection in the widest possible manner, they called upon the organisation Eternal Network, who operate the 'Nouveaux Commanditaires'* scheme. Thanks to Eternal Network, the three commissioners met artist Christelle Familiari whose artistic approach creates links between people thanks to the simplicity of a gesture and a material.The commission was not simply to design a sign. The artist was also asked to consider other aspects of the object and in particular its transitive character. Christelle Familiari then proposed a brass object, an organic shape evoking a pebble or a bone, having the aspect of a jewel but with the humility of an ‘imperfect’ form.Faced with the irrationality of death, the artist hopes that this object might bring a modest contribution to the acute situation of bereavement. Because it is concrete, it can be offered as a gift that carries the message: "I am with you".The Gesture of Mourning comes with a clip; it can also be sewn; put as a pendant; or simply slipped into a pocket where fingers might fiddle.This project came into being thanks to the Fondation de France. It was also received support from the patronage committee of the Fondation des Artistes.Mediation-production: Eternal Network.* The 'Nouveaux Commanditaires' scheme, initiated by the Fondation de France, allows ordinary citizens, faced with issues of society or the development of a territory, to turn to art, and commission a work from a contemporary artist. Its originality is based on a conjunction between three privileged actors: the artist, the citizen as commissioner, the cultural mediator, accompanied by public and private partners close to the project.
