Elvis sees everything
Roland Moreau
épuisé • sold out

“Roland Moreau, works with the imbrication of the adult and the childish world. He uses the references and what qualifies the child world distilling them into the adult world. Each piece opens space to a double lecture, the artist plays with a possible disorder, with the impossibility for the viewers to completely understand what he sees. A painted decoration with simple graphics and bright colours alongside a giant pink cube dripping, but with rigid consistency, that reminds a marshmallow; brown shapes with a prominence on the ground, not identifiable, but evocative, reminding the work of Paul McCarthy.
The poster Elvis Sees Everything is the association of an image that he has had for a while - a canopy of heaven with religious connotations and Elvis, the absolute myth of the 20th century. Here, God is substituted by an iconic image from the mass culture. The artist shows that new referents replaced those that have persisted so far. But in this case, Roland Moreau notes; he doesn't criticise or ironise. As in all of his works that have a soft appearance but still a very ambiguous reality, he leaves to the audience the task to decipher and discuss them.”
