Pascal Rivet, Grand Vario & Petite Voix Lactée

Exposition / Publication

The exhibition Grand Vario & Petite Voix Lactée is the opportunity for Pascal Rivet to invest Lendroit éditions with several of his works. Firstly, a triptych presented at the back of the exhibition space plunges us into the problem, dear to the artist, of everyday life raised to the level of a work of art. Indeed, Pascal Rivet explores popular culture by immersing himself in the world of agriculture (and in the world of work in general) not only out of empathy but also out of a spirit of diversion and contradiction. This approach allows him to nourish his artistic reflection and to inscribe his work in other "fields" than that of art. Here, he works on the shift of universes and techniques by presenting the image of a tractor practically on a 1/1 scale, a work composed of three wooden panels pyrographed "with four hands". Produced with patience and persistence, by successive touches, this work testifies to a fastidious and disproportionate work considering the slowness of the process and the format. Grand Vario, part of a series of "tractor portraits" (2008-2012), was made from photographs taken with the help of neighbouring farmers and will be published in an original edition by Lendroit Editions, Grand Vario.

The artist also presents the painted series Voix Lactée, which is reminiscent of Pascal Rivet's collaboration with Lendroit éditions for the multiple Blé noir in 2016. The white writing on a black background evokes the dress of cows and the milk they produce. Always with the same empathy and humour that characterise his work, the artist manages to show, thanks to the cattle's names, the importance of the relationship between farmers and their animals. This creation also refers to a British study showing that cows that are given special attention and a name are more productive. The entire series was created in 2015 during a workshop at EESAB-Site de Quimper.

The exhibition in Lendroit éditions is an overview of Pascal Rivet's current work. It's also the opportunity for the artist to put the serial dimension of his work forward. Grand Vario & Petite Voix Lactée promise to be a pretty joyful evening before the monographic exhibition at FRAC Bretagne at the end of 2017.
